5 Tried-and-True Moving Tips to Simplify your Next Move
Make a Moving Checklist.
Moving involves a lot of coordination, so writing every to-do on paper can help keep you organized during the move. An example of a moving checklist could look like:
Moving Day
Notify landlord of lease non-renewal.
Confirm booking date with movers.
Set-up new utilities and cancel old ones.
Set up forwarding address for mail.
Pack home (kitchen, bedrooms, closets, garage, attic)
Deep-clean home (get that deposit back!)
Don’t move what you don’t need.
Moving can be a great opportunity to get rid of the items that have lived untouched in the back of your closet. Make a donation and/or junk pile while you pack and sort items as you go. Moving is also a great opportunity to finally clear out your attic. It will make unpacking way easier, and you will get to enjoy a clutter-free new home!
Luckily, Sassi Solutions LLC provides junk removal services as well ;)
Clearly label all boxes
While it may be tempting to throw everything together while packing, we promise labeling is worth the extra effort! It is also advised that you pack according to area – for example, label a box “Kitchen”, then include the specifics: “Blender, silverware, coffee maker”. When you are standing in your bedroom searching for your hairbrush, surrounded by 25 boxes, you will be thankful that you labelled!
Pack an essentials bag
It can be difficult to find items while moving, despite how clearly your boxes are labeled. Make sure to pack a necessities bag – including your toiletries, medications, chargers, important documents, and even a spare outfit! In our experience, knowing where your toothbrush is will significantly help reduce unpacking stress.
Unpack the important items first
Unpacking tends to be the underestimated battle of moving. The movers are gone, all your belongings are safely unloaded in your brand-new home, and you are now surrounded by mountains of cardboard boxes. Our advice is to unpack the important things first (luckily, you labelled!). Unpack your toiletries, your coffee machine, your bed sheets, and any immediate shoes/clothes that are needed. It will help your new space feel like home as soon as you move in, even if all your boxes aren’t unpacked yet.
