When searching for a moving company, choosing a large franchise may be tempting. They have larger brand recognition and more equipment. However, franchise moving companies may not be the best fit for everyone. Here are our insights*:

1. Brand recognition leads to lower perceived risk, which is exactly what it is designed to do. Larger companies rely less on reviews and testimonies and rely more on marketing and brand awareness. For local moving companies, their reputation and reviews are everything. They will likely provide higher levels of service, care, and attention to satisfy every customer.
   

2. Franchise companies may have more advanced equipment, but those costs are passed on to you. The prices differences between a franchise moving company and a local company can be quite large due to the franchise’s overhead costs. Franchises are also especially known for adding hidden fees, fuel surcharges, and unexpected price increases once the move is completed.
   

3. Franchise companies typically have advanced AI systems and automations. This may be great on a functional level, but it can make speaking to a real human very difficult. If you want to be able to speak to the owner, have in-depth conversations about your moving needs, and have a real human to address concerns to - local companies may be the way to go.
